My stance on AI
The words on this site are mine.
I don't use AI to write my posts because writing is how I think, and outsourcing that would take all the fun out of having a personal blog.
I do, however, find these tools genuinely handy in the background:
- As a sparring partner: to bounce ideas around, discuss different arguments, and untangle half-baked thoughts.
- As a copyeditor: to catch typos, point out awkward phrasing, and spot inconsistencies before I hit publish. I also use it to teach me how to write in a more accessible, and friendly way, as well as Markdown formatting and HTML styling where necessary.
- For CSS & HTML: to help style pages and tweak my theme until it looks right, and as a patient tutor to help me become a better coder. I always vet the code to the best of my ability and try to understand what each line is actually doing.
- For visuals: to generate occasional illustrations when a post or a longer guide needs artwork. As my dad likes to remind me: "Your site has so much text! You could, you know... add an illustration or something."
- For research: to help summarise dense material or point me towards interesting references.
Whatever appears here has been shaped, vetted, and approved by me. If a mistake slips through, that's entirely on me, too. Please let me know if you catch something that I should fix and update. I don't intend to use large language models or AI in any way that can cause harm to others.

We're all trying our best to develop useful and ethical AI approaches to work across all sectors of society. It's an exciting but also scary time to be alive. Here are a few interesting sources that go deeper into this topic:
- IndieWeb AI policies — a community directory documenting how independent bloggers and creators approach AI usage.
- slashai.page directory — a curated index of personal "/ai" pages across the independent web.
- Chris Kirk Nielsen's AI policy — a very clear and in-depth policy that raises interesting aspects and celebrates the written word of humans. He even has an icon!
