Do you ever dream about winning the lottery?
Do you ever compare yourself to Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt?
Of course, you do. It’s sexy and fun to think about what you’d do with a million dollars. Or a sexy body. Or a big house and a flashy Lamborghini.
But it also seduces you into becoming a passive human being.
It starts a negative downward spiral, which goes something like:
“Why can’t I win one million dollars? Why does good things never happen to me? Damn it damn it! LIFE IS SO UNFAIR! Look at how easy it is to be Julia Roberts!”
And then you throw the popcorn at the TV and switch the channel.
That behaviour is not going to earn you a million dollars, or more importantly, a life you want to live.
The secret to real growth (not the fluffy kind you hear so much about in the mainstream media these days) is that you must compare yourself to yourself.
Most battles are fought in your head.
You must figure out where you are, and where you’re going. And that takes passion, patience, and courage.
And then you take baby steps. You put one leg in front of the other. Experiment. Make mistakes. And then get up again. Never give up.
Slowly, you’ll reach your goal.
Even babies know that. I’ve never seen an infant give up walking because they didn’t feel like it. Or because they didn’t have enough time.
Babies don’t use excuses. They’re smart like that.
After all, that’s what Julia Roberts and Brad did. They took baby steps, but they never stopped walking. And neither should you.
Here’s to living the life you want… one baby step at a time.
